Amtrak wants to bring passenger rail back to Rockford

“This is an area that’s unserved. We’d like to connect this part of the network to the rest of the network,” said Marc Magliari, Amtrak’s spokesperson from Chicago. Magliari talked with dozens of people in Rockford Tuesday night, who want passenger rail to return. The Rockford group “T.R.A.I.N. Illinois” brought him in to talk more about that possibility. Amtrak left Rockford in 1981 and the train company says it’s time to come back. It wants to connect Rockford and Winnebago and Boone counties with Chicago and potentially Dubuque Iowa. Read more here
Train company Amtrak is proposing to bring back its passenger rail to Rockford, Illinois in 2019. Amtrak is aiming to connect Rockford network to the rest of the networks in Boone, Winnebago and Chicago. The train company left Rockford in 1981 and hopes to serve the area once again this year. Amtrak spokesperson Marc Magliari is conducting talks with the group T.R.A.I.N. Illinois to discuss the proposal. Discussions regarding the possible routes of the passenger rail and the extension of commuter rail service are also being tackled. State leaders are scheduled to meet in February to deliberate on the proposal.


Anderson Japanese Gardens in Rockford, Illinois

Historically, Anderson Japanese Gardens was established by John R. Anderson in 1978 in collaboration with well-known landscaped architect Hoichi Kurisu. The 12-acre garden was inspired by Anderson’s trips overseas particularly in Japan. The garden was recognized as the finest and one of the highest quality Japanese garden in Northern America by the Journal of Japanese Gardening and Sukiya Living Magazine in 2004. A sukiya-styled teahouse designed by Masahiro Hamada can be seen in the garden along with several rock formations, streams and ponds that serve as the home of various species of ducks, minks and colorful fish.
